Island Magic November 2014 at Phillip Island

Last round of the Polymech 2 Litre Sports Sedan Championship

Qualifying

With only a small number of 2 Litre Sports Sedans racing for the Island Magic round competitors can hold their heads high
with good results in a large field of over 30 cars

Steve Howard showed the development of his Corolla is on the up with his lap times getting lower over the weekend
qualifying with a 1:47 lap time.

Daniel Zandt and the Mini Challenge car continues to improve with a 1:49:3 The surprise was Liam Hill’s Hyundai Excel
putting down a time of 1:41:8 only 3 tenths slower than Brett Dickies super fast Honda Prelude a great result

Race 1

Steve raced against V8 Falcons and Commodores and even an R33 GTR only to lose to an XB Falcon V8 on the last lap
for 20th outright and more for the Polymech 2 litre championship

Daniel Zandt battled against Subaru STI and saloon cars to post a 1:50time just back from Steve and 24th outright

With some of the bigger cars failing to finish making their results even more impressive was Liam and Brett’s duel
showing Brett he might have his hands full in the future, Brett finished 12th and Liam 13th outright.

Race 2

With only a 5 Lap dash to make up places the arrival of the safety car at the end of lap 2 and back a lap later due to
a Capri stuck in the gravel on the last turn made for close finishes

Steve Held of the V8 2 door coupe and a fast finishing Golf R to finish 18th outright Daniel diced with the Subaru STi
again an Evo 9 and Rice V8 Prelude and collected valuable Championship points

Brett and Liam again duked it out with Craig’s Gemini and an RX7 to finish 13 and 14th with Liam’s time 1:5 seconds faster
than Brett, bring on the 10 Lapper

Race 3 the 50K Plate for Sports Sedans

The weather had held of all weekend and continued to do so for the last race of the Polymech 2 Litre Championship for 2014

Steve started of well chasing a V8 Commodore cup car only to see it spinoff at turn 4, the warm conditions didn’t seem
to affect most of the cars as he fought with an RX8 and the V8 Coupe again and setting his PB for the track and the
weekend of 1:46:4 a great way to finish the year and his Championship Well done Steve

Daniels Mini was not far behind Steve as he chased down a slowing Golf Turbo to finish only .9 sec behind at the finish line

Another fine drive for Daniel again well done

Brett and Liam should be putting on a good show next year with the two again exchanging faster lap times to finish 11th
and 12th outright against a strong field of very fast cars, they are both spending the Christmas break playing for more
power out of their cars
